Panasonic Toughbook CF-19
Latest update of Panasonic's Tablet PC convertible
The CF-19 is an updated version of the Toughbook CF-19, the Panasonic's only Convertible Tablet/Laptop. The major change is upgrading from an Intel Core Duo U2400 to a Core 2 Duo U7500, which is also a very low voltage chip that runs at 1.06GHz having the same speed and almost the same DTP (Thermal Design Power) rating (10 watts versus the older chip's 9 watts) as the previous version. The CF-19’s overall design is very compact including backward compatibility with previously released vehicle mounts -- a desired feature for many Toughbook users. With a size of 10.7in. x 8.5in. and a thickness less then 2in., this ruggedized machine takes up little space. The heavy duty shell providing hardcore protection, the Toughbook CF-19 weighs just five pounds.
The CF-19's design is a Tablet PC convertible, which can be used as a traditional clam shell notebook or one piece-like tablet. The screen can be turned around and then lay flat onto the keyboard, showing the LCD facing up. The CF19 offering both a touchscreen with Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Tablet Edition with an active Wacom digitizer version. Both versions have a 10.4-inch transmissive XGA display and a low reflection screen coating with a circular polarizer. The Digitizer version is brighter with a 550 Nit rating while the touchscreen version has a 470 Nit LCD.
Standard RAM is 1GB of DDR2 PC2-4200 whcih can be maxed out at 4GB (2GB in the Japanese spec) and the shock-mounted, removable Hard Drive is 80GB. Due to size the CF-19 only offers an optional external Combo optical drive or Super Multi optical drive.
In connectivity, the CF-19 has two USB ports, Firewire, RS232 serial port, modem, 10/100 LAN audio, video, port replicator and 2 external antenna jacks, with all the ports covered or sealed. The CF-19’s wireless capabilities include an Intel WiFiLink 4965AGN module, Bluetooth 2.0 with enhanced data rate, optional internal radios include Cingular, AT&T UMTS/HSDPA, and EV-DO from Verizon and Sprint carriers. GPS and a fingerprint scanner/reader are also optional. The CF-19 offers a Trusted Platform Module security chip but no Smart Card Reader.
The Toughbook CF-19 is built to last long with a full magnesium housing, Rated IP54 making it moisture and dust resistant. MIL-STD-810F tested, making the CF19 Fully Rugged.
The CF-19 is a beast of a machine in a compact design. Light weight with a battery big enough to last about eight hours on a good day. The Panasonic Toughbook CF19 is perfect for outdoor, mobile use in almost every condition.
